Meeting born again Christians for dating, love & marriage

First of all, what does the term 'born again' actually mean? When I was young the term Born Again Christian was banded around loosely in a derogatory way to imply people who belonged to this 'Born Again' Christian group belonged to a Christian sect! It was only later on in life when I became a Christian myself that I discovered that the standard old Bible - yep the King James Bible (and all other Bibles) we read in church - not some dodgy new age rewritten version, actually says we need to be 'born again' to enter the kingdom of God! So what then does being born again actually mean?

I can certainly say without a doubt that when I gave my life to Christ (God) - I actually felt completely reborn - a new person. The missing peice of the jigsaw that I had always wondered about was now in place and life whilst still fraught with difficulties felt complete for the first time. Everything made sense. Love, life, death, pleasure, pain, suffering, fellowship, prayer, petition, judgement, you name it - it makes so much sense now my eyes are open so to speak.

So.... “Born again” ... what does it mean?

I am a born again Christian. So just what does that mean exactly? Most non-Christians and even many Christians don't really know. There are for sure many misconceptions about the phrase born again - or being re-born a Christian, normally pertaining to dodgy sects and the like.

I am a non-denominational Christian. That means I believe the most widely and generally accepted mainstream Christian belief; in an all powerful all loving God that came to earth and experience our troubles and pains first hand (the only religious leader that did this - how cool and loving is that?!!!:)) It also means that I don't belive that any one particular denomination has any 'advantage' over another - if you wern't aware, all churches started off as small groups of people who got together in homes and meeting places - they wern't 'churches'! The deniminations have come about over time and do create distinctions in the way worship is carried out but sometimes leads to confusion and even conflict amongst churches. All this really says is that we are all human, all fallible wether as people or in groups and need guidence and forgiveness for our often biggoted ways and dogmatic beliefs, and the assumption that - 'we are always right'!!! - as could never be the case:)

God who created us, loves us. He has a plan for us in eternity. The purpose of Christ (God incarnate) is a) to show us the way and b) to demonstrate that God Really cares enough to allow us to crucify him for our sins. The resurrection of Christ demonstrates to us what we can do also and we have the key to eternal life. Might I say at this point - Im glad someone does or all this - and I mean all this is pointless:)

If you agree with God that Christ was God incarnate (there is a lot of eveidence to support this for anyone who is willing to open their hearts to it) then you believe that Jesus Christ is not just the Savior of the entire world your Savior also:) Wow!

So where does 'born again' come from?...here's your answer!!!

John 3:3

Jesus answered and said to him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.'

John 3:7

'Do not be amazed that I said to you, You must be born again.'

1 Peter 1:3

'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.'

The passage that explains this term is located in chapter three of the Gospel of John. A very religious guy came to see Jesus one night. Nicodemus - and he was surprised when Jesus told him that the secret to eternal life was to be ‘Born again.” Nicodemus asked, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?' Jesus replied to Nicodemus this way, in John 3:5-7

'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 'Do not be amazed that I said to you, You must be born again.'

Christ is saying we have a physical body and a spiritual body. The body dies - the spirit continues and the water he refers to is the water that is present at childbirth. So He is saying you are born physically, but must be born spiritually. Two births. How does one get a 'spiritual birth'?

Jesus explains verse 15;

'As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.' Whoever believes in “Him”, meaning Jesus Christ, the Son of Man.

Finally - John 3:16;
'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.'

What is not required? Accepting Jesus, doing good, being good, helping others, and being examples of Christ. But..... He asks us to do these things because we ARE Born Again, not in order TO BECOME born again!:) John 3:16 doesn't say .'...so that whoever believes and helps the poor and never lies and performs good works and never sins shall have eternal life.' No - 'whoever believes'!
There's the simple key - even a child can do it!

Finally.....

Great news. One you are born again, you can't be unborn. You can't lose your salvation. It's a gift end of story should you accept. It'a also clear it is forever - John 5:13 'These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.' The bible doesn't say that you might have eternal life. It doesn't say you may lose your salvation. it doesn't say you have to be born over and over and over. Christ, on the cross, said, 'It is finished!'
